01 / Investigate & design

Fit the storage system
to an existing repair facility.

The shop needed an approved arrangement for its motor-oil and used-oil storage, including a tank connection supplying the existing used-oil heater.

ZE’s work included an on-site investigation led by Matt Zambrano, who personally evaluated the facility to inform the lube oil storage system design drawings.

The design had to account for existing equipment, exterior vent routes and vehicles entering and leaving the repair bays. ZE worked directly with the owner to coordinate the new tank and retained equipment within that layout.

02 / The defining design work

Work with the manufacturer.
Resolve the tank details before installation.

ZE worked closely with the manufacturer on the specifics of the new 500-gallon used-oil tank. The collaboration addressed Suffolk County’s requirements, the connection to the existing heater and flexibility for a future change from hand filling to pump filling.

TANK CONFIGURATION

Coordinate the manufactured tank

ZE worked with the manufacturer on a tank configured for current hand filling and designed to meet code requirements for pump filling if the facility changes its filling method in the future.

HEATER CONNECTION

Detail the supply system

Coordinate the suction pump, filter, supply and relief piping connecting the new tank to the shop’s existing used-oil heater.

SHOP INTEGRATION

Account for the working space

Address exterior venting, pipe supports, wall penetrations and protective bollards within the established repair-bay layout.

03 / New and retained equipment

One coordinated
three-tank arrangement.

The approved scope retained two existing 240-gallon double-wall tanks for motor oil and used oil, and added a new 500-gallon double-wall tank for used oil supplied to the heater.

The lube oil storage system design drawings included tank equipment schedules, elevations and installation details. Mechanical level gauges, motor-oil overfill protection, venting and spill containment were coordinated in the design. The new used-oil heating tank is operational for hand filling, with a design that meets code requirements for future pump filling.

Tank anchoring and grounding were addressed in the details, alongside the physical protection needed around vehicle activity.

04 / County review & outcome

Completed, inspected
and approved by SCDHS.

Suffolk County Department of Health Services approved the construction scope and issued final approval after the project was completed and inspected.

The approval covers the new 500-gallon used-oil heating tank and the two retained 240-gallon oil tanks. The completed project brings the shop’s oil storage and heater-supply arrangement together under the county-approved design.

The project demonstrates ZE’s role in coordinating the tank itself with the surrounding installation, from manufacturer collaboration through the drawings used for county review.

ZE provided lube oil storage system design, manufacturer coordination and permitting support. Design certification was provided by a professional engineer licensed in New York. Tank fabrication and installation were performed by others; final approval and inspection were provided by SCDHS.
